They get repeatedly abused.'Their only option is to go back home without any other means of support. It is common that they work in farms, fields, construction sites or kitchens without disclosing their profession. The practice of making them work without disclosing their duties to them, gives rise to a host of other problems - especially when the labourers want to go back home after they complete their term of service, says Sushil Sharma, a social activist from Gurgaon.Vishisht Sharma, a Gurgaon resident who works as a manager in the IT industry, told TOI, 'Most of the workers who come from villages don't know anything about the city. Siddharth's story is an example of the kind of abuse that thousands of migrant workers face in the country every day.

After a year-and-a-half of service, Siddharth returned home on January 28.Ironically, none of his family members or relatives in his village had ever known about his profession. He was also worried that his family members might not be able to offer him a roof over his head when his term of service was over. 'I didn't speak about the issue due to the fear that my family members might not understand my job,' says Siddharth, a 'Bharat' lad. While he had no roof over his head, he was forced to spend the night in graveyards every day on the farm of his employers.His was a grim future. But he didn't tell his family about the job he had signed up for. GURUGRAM: Twenty-eight-year-old Siddharth, who resides in Mohan Murti Colony, Gurgaon, was a contract labourer working on a joint family farm.
